Located at the estuarine of Sungai Perlis, Kuala Perlis is a port town. There are about 10,000 people residing in this somewhat muddled but uniquely attractive town. Fishing is an industry and everything else related to it is a major item in the shops and warehouses. Kuala Perlis is noted for its local food, such as Laksa or rice noodles dipped in spicy fish-soup with sliced onion and cucumbers. Kuala Perlis is also the second largest town in the state and is the entry and exit point to Langkawi, as well as Phuket Island and other coastal towns in Southern Thailand.
